WaylandCares would like to thank the Wayland High School SADD chapter for their partnership and hard work to deliver the compelling and educational student presentation, “In Their Own Words.”
WHS students did a tremendous job highlighting key data points, trends and norms regarding youth substance abuse in Wayland largely based on a biannual survey administered to middle and high school students. Their suggested strategies for addressing the problem were spot-on.
One disconnection between parents and children we think it’s important to note: A survey of parents found that one-fourth of respondents admitted they don’t establish for their children clear rules concerning substance use. This is especially concerning because students cite parental disapproval as the primary reason for not drinking or smoking.
